Interesting article in Wired about the how privacy policies are being roughed up by many companies.
While many did indeed get a free iPod, all ended up with inboxes full of marketing pitches, which began showing up within hours of registering.
Many of the offers weren’t true at all, but even more egregious was the fact many of the marketing companies were violating publicly posted privacy policies.
Still, the consumer has to shoulder some blame.
These charges are altogether serious, but can’t really come as any surprise to people. The idea of click “I Agree” to a long electronic that you haven’t read, has got to strike some folks as being a poor idea. People need to remain dilligent in order to avoid being scammed, especially online. That being said, these companies have no business ripping off and lying to consumers like they do. Privacy seems to be a dwindling thing, especially for some people.
