According to numerous reports, Samsung announced on Thursday that their Origami form factor UMPC, the Q1 will be available for sale in the United States. Early reports on the product are mixed, but from every picture I’ve seen, it’s a great looking device.
UMPCs are in their initial stages, and haven’t yet hit their stride. Samsungs offering promises to have some appeal. The price is expected to be much higher than was originally envisioned for UMPCs. Initially Microsoft predicted that UMPCs would sell for between $500 to $1000. In Korea, the Samsung Q1 will sell for over $1,200.
I’ve heard grumblings about the Q1 so far, but it’s not from the man in the street. The question of mass adoption of UMPC technology will be answered this summer, and the Q1 is an excellent test.
