Samsung Q1 receiving negative coverage on websites

So far the Origami based Samsung Q1 UMPC has received tepid reviews online. This, of course, has nothing to do with the reality of how the product will perform once released in the wild. The online audience tends to be very technically savvy and picky. Part of the trouble is a faux pas from Samsung executives who were demoing the product. Engadget said:

Among the various mishaps were a battery that went dead after only a few minutes, an apparent inability to call up the on-screen keyboard for advancing a PowerPoint presentation, and another presentation that went into rapid slideshow mode on its own.

More from PCWorld:

The Samsung executive couldn’t figure out how to navigate his slides. The battery died a few minutes into the presentation. A Microsoft exec took over and also had trouble figuring out how to use the thing. So did a gent from Microsoft. There must have been prodigious quantities of flop sweat shed on that stage.

The flap has caused quite a stir because it’s the first version of the much-vaunted Origami form factor, and expectations have been running high.  Although it makes for fun online journalism, I’d caution against placing too much emphasis on one demo, now matter how bad it went.  The true tale will be how consumers embrace the product, whether they do at all.  Time will tell as the UMPC battles are just beginning to heat up in earnest.
