Are you planning on walking down the streets of Brooklyn, New York? If you are, you aren’t walking alone.
Brand new wireless cameras are being added to “watch the streets from above” to assist in crime prevention, fight against terrorism and identify suspects in crimes perpetrated on Brooklyns streets. These will replace older cameras as part of a 9 million dollar grant for upgraded security.
New York City is hoping to get another 81 million in Federal Grants to add more security cameras in other locations throughout the city. The city currently has about 1,000 cameras in the subways, with 2,100 scheduled to be in place by 2008. An additional 3,100 cameras monitor city housing projects.
So the next time you’re in New York, Smile!
Chances are, you’re on candid camera.Â
