PDA’s Required by More Medical Schools.
April 17, 2006 – 6:21 amWe all know how fast paced life can be.
That’s one of the reasons that more Medical Schools are requiring students to carry a Personal Digital Assistant to assist in the treatment of patients. But how can a PDA help a patient?
By providing the attending physician with information.
Professional programs made for PDA’s provide detailed information on diseases, symptoms, and medications. A simple search for a medication name will bring up side effects associated with the drug, what it’s used to treat, correct dosages, and generic equivalants.
The reason PDA’s are a simple solution is because books on these subjects are quickly outdated. Software on PDA’s is updated every week, giving the most recent updates on changes made in medicine. It’s no surprise to me that even doctors and nurses are stepping into the new future of technology to make their jobs just a little bit easier.
This should be good news to Palm, the leading manufacturer of PDA’s and the software developers (California based Epocrates). This trend will grow as an effective way to get and provide accurate information to patients and other staff.
Doctors and nurses having information at their fingertips will lead to better overall health treatment, and that leads to a better health community.
