As HDTV is becoming more common, a greated demand for HD camcorders has happened. Sony is rising to the challenge by announcing the the world’s first HD camcorder is being produced.

The units will be able to save videos straight to the hard drive or DVD (HD DVD or Blu-Ray), just like current Sony Camcorders do.

Sony, the world’s largest camcorder maker competing with smaller rivals such as Victor Co. of Japan Ltd. (JVC) and Canon Inc., aims to sell 30,000 of the DVD model and 20,000 of the HDD model in the first month in Japan.

The demand is tiny, but growing. Expect much higher quality images with the units, albeit at a much higher price. Some consumers are still waiting to see who will win the standard wars.
