You may recall my post in August about an upcoming Brain Age tournament to be held in Nintendo World Store, a Nintendo-only video game store. The winner, who had to be a grandparent, would walk home with the title “Coolest Grandparent of the Year”, as well as two DS Lites and ten games.

In a twist that will amuse a lot of people, the winner is none other than Old Grandma Hardcore, an e-celebrity of sorts who rose to fame last year after making her presence known on the web as a 70-year-old ‘hardcore gamer’. Her fame grew so intense in fact that she hired by MTV as a correspondent and host.

Old Grandma Hardcore

I’m rather surprised to be honest. I had no idea Old Grandma Hardcore would be attending, let alone that she’d win. But then, considering she still constantly plays video games of all genres and platforms at the age of 70 and no doubt pulled out every trick up her sleeve during the supposedly intense tournament, the competition didn’t stand a chance.

Be sure to check out her Flickr photo set of the event, as well as a blog post about the victory, written on her official blog by her grandson. There are also more superb photos on Go Nintendo, where you can see the amount of energy surrounding the event. I only wish I was there.
