GARFIELD HEIGHTS — A new piece of technology is helping fight the war against drunk driving.
Authorities in Garfield Heights today were taking a look at a device known as a “Scram” bracelet. It monitors the perspiration of its wearer to determine if they’ve consumed alcohol.

Some areas have already begun having drunk drivers wear the device to make sure they aren’t violating parole.

This is a very interesting idea. Way too many people are killed by drunk drivers, in some cases they have multiple convictions for the same offense.A few weeks ago, a man with 12 offenses of drunk driving decided to flee from officers and hit a car with three young college students. Two teenagers were needlessly killed, and one is critically injured. This bracelet provides real time BAC reading for offenders that are outfitted with it, and judges are hoping to use this as a way to prevent jail overcrowding.
