Chief Executive John Donahoe said changes he envisioned would be accelerated because they were long overdue.

The growth potential for PayPal is large.

PayPal President Scott Thompson told a throng of analysts and investors that he expected the online payments arm to double its business within two years. Executives said eBay secured an agreement with Research in Motion Ltd to be the exclusive payments system for a growing family of mobile applications on the popular Blackberry smartphone.

The company expects sales at the rest of EBay to remain relatively flat on lower consumer spending. Executives for the company said they admit they were slow to react to changes in the marketplace. They’re now looking to implement changes at PayPal right now to accelerate the change.
