Warner Music has boogied out of YouTube, taking a big load of videos with them. At issue, the amount of revenue that Google was paying to Warner Music. The two companies had been in talks to renew their deals, when they must have hit an impasse. Now videos by Warner Music artists (such as Madonna), are disappearing from the video sharing site as if by magic.

Not only are professionally produced videos by Warner Music at risk, but any video with a Warner Music copyrighted song on it will soon be yanked by YouTube. All told, at least several hundred thousand videos will soon be removed.

The position of Warner Music seems clear enough, they’re not getting paid the money they feel they deserve for such a vast video collection

“We simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide.”

YouTube and Warner Music had a relationship before search engine giant Google bought YouTube in 2006. Warner was one of the first companies to sign a legit contract with the service. Now their relationship with Google has soured.
