Twitter Bird Cost $6
March 14, 2009 – 6:25 amThe Twitter bird, the one that “Tweets” on the Twitter home page and has been seen by millions was not an expensive piece of art to construct. In fact, the birdie only cost $6. That’s the kind of deal most companies would kill for.
The bird was designed by Brit Simon Oxley. He sold it to Twitter through iStockPhoto.
“I am not sure [whether crowdsourcing hurts designers],” he told Wired via e-mail. “I believe a designer can only be ‘hurt’ when they stand in line — instead of constantly seeking new inspiration and producing new things with their ever-increasing experiences.”
At the least Oxley gets the privilege of knowing that his artwork is enjoyed by millions. That has to count for something.
